The New Year celebrations were great in Portimao and the fireworks along the coast could be seen for miles .  Now’s the time to think about getting away to this lovely area of the Algarve where even in the early months of the year the weather is usually sunny and bright and great for venturing out on long walks on the beach or in the many destinations that are easy to reach from this traditional fishing village.  It’s not necessary to have a car to enjoy this location as the local village offers all one needs and Portimao a much larger town has a different offering with lots of local shops to browse around.  Carvoeiro is also just a short distance away if you wish to explore another area of local beauty and activity.

It’s going to be Carnival time from the 22nd-24th of January in Silves, a wonderful town that it great for a visit with its Castle based at the top of the elevated part of the City. 

A recent visit to the West Coast (only an hour’s drive from the villa) was also a great place to visit for the day with the expansive beaches and coastline forrestry and of course great hospitality as always from the small Portuguese restaurants that are based in this area.
