This luxury 4 bed-roomed self-catering villa accommodates up to eight people and is located in the picturesque and traditional fishing village of Ferragudo, which is in the Western Algarve on the Southern coast of Portugal. Overlooking the Praia de Angrinha beach, as well as the beautiful grounds of the Castle of Sao Joao de Arade, a privately owned 15th century fortress, the views are spectacular.
The Praia Grande beach is a huge expansive beach leading on from Angrinha Beach so again, right on the door-step. On days when you wish to move away from the pool, chilling out on Praia Grande can offer relaxation at its best; be it watching the sailing vessels come and go from the marina or the fishing boats coming in from their days at sea. Eating in one of the local Portuguese beach restaurants, walking along the shoreline or playing games with the children, Praia Grande never gets overcrowded and it’s really tranquil and safe.
Ferragudo
Ferragudo is a charming and picturesque location that remains true to its Portuguese fishing village roots retaining traditional charm but yet close to the larger resorts of Portimao, Praia de Rocha, Lagos, Carvoeiro and Silves. The heart of the village centres around the square which is only a short stroll away from the villa. With wonderful beaches, golf and sailing facilities, as well as the opportunities for long walks with breathtaking views, it’s a wonderful location. Local restaurants and bars provide good food and traditional entertainment. For those self catering but wishing variety, the marina restaurants are an excellent alternative to eating in the surroundings of Ferragudo village. In season, the marina can usually be accessed by a local water taxi service which whisks people across from the Ferragudo quayside to the marina jetty.
The Algarve
Situated to the south of Portugal, on the southwest tip of Europe, is one of the world’s most beautiful, unspoilt stretches of beach and coastland. In fact, the Algarve is one of Europe’s sunniest spots and has been described as a unique jewel where the finest sandy beaches and the perfect, sunny climate meet to give this fabulous location its world-renowned reputation.
Portimao, Silves, Lagoa, Lagos, Carveiro all very close to Ferragudo but all with a uniqueness about them.
Portimao is the largest town in the western Algarve and is located at the mouth of the river Arade and is just across the mouth of the river from Ferragudo . During most months of the year, visitors can enjoy day trips on boats offering game-fishing and traditional sea and river excursions. There are also many shops and restaurants to discover, as well as a weekly market.
Silves is one of the historic locations close-by. Its imposing red sandstone castle was the scene of battles between Islamic Moors and Christians. Crusaders on their way to the Holy Land played an important role in Algarve in the 13th Century. This is now a quiet market town in the Algarve’s main citrus-growing area.
Lagoa, is a typical, small provincial town close-by, and is best known for its winery production. Tours can be arranged for those interested in wine production.
Getting to Ferragudo
We have guests who arrive at both Faro Airport and Lisbon. The villa is about 45 minutes drive from Faro and we can organise for you to be met at the airport if you do not wish to hire a car. Car hire is not essential but can be either picked up easily at the airport or can be arranged locally in Ferragudo. Some clients are met at the airport and taken to the villa and then hire a car locally for a few days only if they wish to get out and about. For clients coming into Lisbon, the drive is about three hours but motorway most of the way. If you decide to drive, we provide information before you travel on directions to the villa. Train is an option from Faro to Portimao or Ferrugudo but be warned whilst the trains are traditional and clean in true Portuguese relaxed and chilled style, they do take a little time to get you to your destination.
